A field of color. A diamond lattice. A watchful home.
Eight weeks of work. The hands of women artisans. One loom. One rug — never to be repeated.
This hand-knotted multicolor Moroccan wool rug was made in the village of Taznakht, in the foothills of Morocco's Anti-Atlas Mountains. It was tied knot by knot on a vertical loom by skilled women artisans over roughly eight weeks of patient work — never copied, never repeated. Made entirely from 100% natural sheep's wool and naturally dyed, a dense confetti field is held together by a cream diamond lattice drawn by hand across the whole rug. It is the only one of its kind in the world.
Meaning & Symbolism
Entirely hand-knotted by the artisans, this rug holds two layers of meaning. The first is the diamond lattice — interlocking lozenges drawn in undyed cream wool across the entire field. In Amazigh weaving the diamond is the oldest sign of protection and the family bond, repeated here so the whole rug becomes one continuous shield.
The second is colour itself. The speckled field is a quiet language: blue for protection and calm, orange and red for energy and life, rose for tenderness, green-grey for the land and growth, and the natural cream and black wool for honesty and the balance of light and dark. Together they stand for creativity, rhythm, and joy.
Scattered through the field are small bright knots that read as eye motifs. When we asked the artisan what she meant by weaving them in, she said they were there to watch over the home and turn away harm. The result is not only decoration, but a handmade object shaped by patience, memory, and daily use.
The Symbols on This Rug
This rug speaks through its lattice, its scattered colour, and the small bright knots woven through the field.
Color from the Earth
Every colour in this rug comes from one of two sources: a plant-based pigment dissolved in a copper pot, or the natural colour of the wool itself, straight from the sheep. Nothing is bought as a ready-made colour.
The bright orange, soft rose, and green-grey knots scattered through the field are not separate dyes — they are made by layering and over-dyeing the three base pigments by hand.
The cream lattice and the dark flecks are not dyed at all — they come straight from the natural colour of the wool, sheared from different sheep.
Perfect Spaces
At 79 × 47 in (201 × 119 cm), this rug works as a grounding anchor in rooms that need warmth, softness, and a deep hand-knotted texture underfoot.
A warm, grounding centerpiece that anchors a seating area with deep handmade texture.
Soft, thick wool underfoot makes the room feel calm and settled in the morning.
A durable hand-knotted accent that brings rhythm and colour to a passage.
A tactile layer that makes a quiet corner feel warmer and more personal.
Natural wool and a grounded pattern soften and warm a focused work area.
"May this rug fill your home with warmth, joy, and vibrant energy. May the diamond lattice keep you and your family protected, and may the watchful eyes woven within bring comfort, beauty, and happiness to every corner of your life." — The Artisan's Blessing
