Look at this rug straight on and it reads as one deep, quiet burgundy. Nothing announces itself. What you notice, when you finally do, is not a colour at all but a change in the surface: thick wool in some places, flat weave in others.
That is because this handmade Moroccan rug carries no pattern in the usual sense: no diamonds, no borders, no drawn symbols. Its design comes from the weaving itself, two techniques in one rug. Most of the surface is hand-knotted pile in 100% Moroccan wool, thick and standing. Winding through it are bands of flatweave, woven close to the foundation with no pile at all. The shapes appear where one technique meets the other.
It came off the loom as one continuous piece, edge to edge, with the warp threads finished by hand into fringe at both ends. Three of our weavers worked it side by side, one row at a time.

Meaning & Symbolism
The meaning of colour varies between regions, families, and weaving traditions, and no single reading holds everywhere. Here, the deep red was chosen for its warmth, strength, and presence in a room. A rug like this is rarely woven as an object alone. It is woven with a wish attached to it.

Colour from the Earth
There is only one colour in this rug, and it is never the same twice. The whole rug is woven in a single deep burgundy wool, but the knotted pile and the flatweave hold that colour differently, so the field reads open and wine-red where the pile catches the light, and dark and dense along the flat bands.
Nothing here is printed or patterned. What looks like three tones is one colour of wool, seen through two different weaves.
Perfect Spaces
At 6'7" × 9'10" (200 × 300 cm), this Moroccan wool rug is large enough to hold a whole room together rather than decorate a corner of it. Custom sizes and colours can be woven to order.
Large enough to sit under the full seating group with all four legs of the sofa on the wool, the way a rug this size is meant to be used.
Placed under a king bed it leaves a generous band of pile on both sides and at the foot, so your feet land on wool every morning.
Wide enough that chairs stay on the rug when pulled back from a six-seat table, and dark enough not to show the life of a room where people eat.
