Share whatever you have: room dimensions, a preferred rug size, photographs of the space, colours, references, your delivery country and any important deadline. An incomplete idea is enough. We can guide you through the proportions, palette, wool and weaving technique before anything is sent to the loom.

Yes. We work with interior designers, architects, hospitality teams and retailers on individual pieces or multi-rug projects. Share the quantities, dimensions, preferred techniques, delivery country and target timeline. We will confirm capacity, any sampling needs, the production schedule and a clear proposal before work begins.

Yes. Custom dimensions are central to our work. We can make standard room sizes, runners and large-format pieces. For very large or unusual proportions, we confirm loom feasibility, construction and timing before preparing your quote.

Yes. A Design Library piece can be adapted in size, palette, proportion, technique or finish. Because changing dimensions can alter the balance of a pattern, we adjust the composition rather than simply stretching it.

Yes. Your references help us understand colour, rhythm and atmosphere. We translate that direction into a design that can be woven by hand. We do not make exact copies of another artist’s protected work, but references can guide an original commission.

Yes. We agree the palette, texture, pile height and fringe finish with you. Fringes can be placed on zero, one or two sides, with a standard finished length of approximately 10 cm unless another finish is confirmed. We share clear photographs and videos so you can approve the closest available palette and intended weave. Physical swatches are arranged separately when a project requires one, with any additional cost and timing confirmed in advance.

It will follow the approved dimensions, palette, design direction, technique and finish. It will not look machine-perfect. Subtle movement in lines, pile and colour is part of genuine handweaving, and screens can also display colours differently.

Every rug is handwoven in Morocco by skilled women artisans. Our roots are in the Iznaguen Women’s Cooperative in Taznakht, founded in 2009 and bringing together 64 artisans. We also collaborate with other women-led cooperatives and specialist weavers across Morocco. Each commission is entrusted to the women with the strongest experience in the technique and rug style it requires.

Yes. Visits to the Iznaguen Women’s Cooperative in Taznakht can be arranged in advance, subject to artisan availability and the weaving schedule. Contact us with your preferred dates and number of visitors so we can confirm what is possible.

Our standard commissions use premium Moroccan sheep wool selected for the required technique and texture. It offers consistency, softness and strong value. Hand-spun Siroua wool is available as a higher-priced option; its hand preparation gives the yarn a more visibly irregular, tactile character and requires considerably more labour. Your proposal specifies the material before you confirm the commission.

Both are available. Depending on the project, we can use plant-based natural dyes—including madder, indigo, pomegranate and walnut—or high-quality synthetic dyes when greater colour precision or a particular shade is needed. The choice is confirmed with you.

We work with three core constructions: hand-knotted pile, flatweave kilim and mixed Taznakht weaving. Within these constructions, we can create different Moroccan rug directions, including soft, deep-pile Mrirt and Beni Ouarain styles. We recommend the right construction according to the design, desired feel and intended use. If you have another Moroccan technique in mind, send us a photograph or reference. We will consult our artisan network and confirm whether we have the right specialist to make it.

Small variations in line, colour, pile direction, shape and final dimensions are natural in a rug built knot by knot. They are not signs of machine-level uniformity; they are evidence of the maker’s hand and give every rug its individual character.

We work directly with the artisans, identify the maker of your rug and share its progress. The Iznaguen Women’s Cooperative is registered with Artisanat du Maroc and holds STEP fair-trade certification. This supports traceability and a direct relationship between each commission and the women who make it.

There is no single fixed price. Your quote is calculated from the dimensions, design complexity, wool, dye choice, weaving technique, density, pile and finish. We confirm one clear project price before you pay the deposit.

Your quote includes the agreed design development, materials, handweaving, finishing, quality control and standard international delivery. If your destination may involve import charges, we flag this separately before you confirm the commission.

A 50% deposit confirms the commission and allows materials and weaving to be scheduled. After finishing, we share final photographs and video for your approval. The remaining 50% is paid after approval and before dispatch.

Most commissions take approximately 6–13 weeks. Your estimate is based on the rug’s size, construction, pile density, design complexity and finishing requirements. Washing and natural drying are weather-sensitive, so cold or wet conditions may occasionally add a little time at the final stage. Very large or especially dense rugs can also take longer. We confirm the estimated timeline in your proposal and communicate any likely change.

Tell us about your deadline at the beginning. We will check artisan availability, materials, technique and shipping before confirming whether it is realistic. Handmade production cannot be rushed at the expense of quality, so a requested date is only accepted when we can plan for it responsibly.

Yes. You will know who is weaving your rug and receive updates during the making—normally weekly, with key moments such as the first rows, the pattern emerging and the final details.

Yes. Once weaving, washing, finishing and quality control are complete, we send final photographs and video. You approve the finished rug before paying the remaining balance and before it is prepared for dispatch.

Yes. We send TazRugs commissions internationally from Morocco, and standard delivery is included in your confirmed commission price. Customs duties or import taxes are separate when they apply. Delivery to many European destinations usually takes around 5–10 business days, while UK delivery is commonly around 10 days. We use tracked carriers such as DHL, FedEx or Aramex, depending on the destination and parcel, and share the tracking number as soon as your rug is dispatched. Customs checks, holidays, remote addresses and carrier conditions can add time.

Possibly. Whether duties or taxes apply depends on the destination country. When applicable, they are not included in the TazRugs price and are set and collected by local customs or the carrier, not by TazRugs. Contact us with your delivery country and we will help you check what generally applies before you confirm your commission. The final assessment remains with the local authorities.

Contact us if tracking stops updating or the estimated delivery window has passed. We will follow up directly with the carrier and continue monitoring the shipment with you until there is a clear update.

Contact us immediately if your plans change. Details can usually be adjusted while the proposal, design and palette are still being confirmed. Once materials have been prepared or weaving has begun, changes may no longer be possible and can affect the price or timeline. If production has started, the deposit is normally non-refundable because it covers design preparation, materials and reserved artisan time.

Because a commission is woven to your approved specifications, it cannot normally be returned simply because you change your mind. If it is damaged during delivery, contact us promptly. Every commission is followed carefully through detailed confirmation, weekly progress updates, final photographs and video, and quality control before dispatch. If the rug or parcel is damaged during delivery, contact us promptly, keep the packaging and send clear photographs and video. We will document the issue with the carrier and work with you toward the appropriate solution.

Some light shedding is normal, particularly with a new cut-pile rug. Loose fibres should reduce with gentle use and regular vacuuming. Excessive pulling, harsh brushes and high-powered beater bars can disturb the wool.

• After delivery: unroll the rug and lay it flat. Light shipping creases should relax naturally.
• Regular care: vacuum with low suction and no rotating brush, avoiding the fringes. Rotate the rug occasionally and limit prolonged direct sunlight.
• Protection: use a suitable rug pad to reduce movement and protect both the rug and floor.
• Long-term storage: clean and fully dry the rug, roll it rather than fold it, and store it in a breathable cotton or muslin cover in a dry place.

Blot immediately with a clean white absorbent cloth—do not rub, scrub or saturate the wool. Use only a small amount of cold water. Avoid bleach, aggressive stain removers and untested household remedies. For a persistent, coloured or oily stain, contact a professional cleaner experienced with handmade wool rugs.

The right frequency depends on use and soiling, but professional cleaning every 2–3 years is a useful general guide. Choose a cleaner experienced with handmade wool rugs and explain whether the piece contains pile, flatweave or mixed construction. Never place the rug in a domestic washing machine.
