Band after band of pattern. A blessing the length of a hall.
Four weeks of work. The hands of skilled women. One loom. One runner — never to be repeated.
This handwoven multicolor Moroccan wool runner was made in the village of Taznakht, in the foothills of Morocco's Anti-Atlas Mountains. It was worked on a vertical loom by skilled women artisans over roughly four weeks of patient effort — band by band, never copied, never repeated. Made entirely from 100% natural sheep's wool and naturally dyed, it stacks dozens of geometric bands down its full length, alternating flat-woven rows with raised pile. It is the only one of its kind in the world.
Meaning & Symbolism
Inspired by generations of Amazigh weaving, this runner is read like a scroll — each horizontal band a separate line in a long story, stacked from one end to the other. No two bands repeat exactly; together they hold heritage, creativity, and the cultural pride of the women who made them.
The signs woven through the bands are the oldest in the tradition: diamonds for the family bond and protection, chevrons and zigzags for the flow of life and water, and dense speckled fields of small dots that read as scattered eyes — watching over the home and turning away harm.
Colour carries its own meaning here: red for strength and life, blue for protection and calm, green for growth and the land, gold and orange for warmth and welcome. The result is not only decoration, but a handmade object shaped by patience, memory, and daily use.
The Symbols on This Rug
Each motif carries meaning in Amazigh weaving — stacked band after band, they read like a long blessing for your home.
Color from the Earth
Every colour in this runner comes from one of two sources: a plant-based pigment dissolved in a copper pot, or the natural colour of the wool itself, straight from the sheep. Nothing is bought as a ready-made colour.
The bright greens and warm orange in the bands are not separate dyes — they are made by layering and over-dyeing the three base pigments by hand.
The cream outlines and the dark detail rows are not dyed at all — they come straight from the natural colour of the wool, sheared from different sheep.
Perfect Spaces
At 30 × 61 in (76 × 155 cm), this narrow runner is built for passages and edges — and being reversible, it can be turned over to refresh a space.
The runner shape brings handmade texture and warmth to a long passage.
A welcoming first layer with Moroccan character and durable wool at the door.
A low-profile wool accent that softens a practical working space.
A narrow, comfortable textile underfoot along one side of the bed.
Hung vertically, the stacked bands read as woven textile art.
"May this runner bring joy, color, and warmth into your home. May the diamonds keep your family protected and the flowing bands carry harmony through your days — and may every step you take on it remind you of the beauty of handmade craft." — The Artisan's Blessing
