Two rugs. One loom. Harmony brought home in pairs.
Five weeks of work. The hands of Amazigh women. One loom. Two rugs — never to be repeated.
Two handwoven multicolor and red Moroccan flatweave rugs, made in Taznakht in the Anti-Atlas foothills by skilled Amazigh women over roughly five weeks — woven as a matched pair, never to be copied. The construction is a reversible flatweave kilim, dense horizontal stripes interrupted by bold curved geometric shapes that give each piece a strong visual identity. Every strand is 100% natural sheep's wool, plant-dyed with pigments from root, peel and stone — the vivid reds from madder, the warm oranges layered from yellow and red, the earth greens over-dyed from pomegranate and indigo. The pairing is intentional: two rugs from the same hands, the same wool, the same loom rhythm. It is the only set of its kind in the world.
Meaning & Symbolism
Entirely imagined and designed by the artisans, this twin rug set carries the spirit of traditional Amazigh weaving. The large curved geometric shapes — rounded lozenges that interrupt the striped field — are a form of protective medallion in Taznakht weaving. In pairs, they speak of balance: two halves of a whole, mirroring each other across a room the way two rugs mirror each other across a bedside.
The multicolor stripe field is not decorative randomness. In Amazigh craft tradition, each colour band holds meaning — red for strength and the life force, deep green for the land and growth, warm orange for welcome and hearth, black for honesty and the dark that balances light, cream for purity and the undyed fleece of the sheep. The stripes running edge to edge speak of continuity: the thread of daily life, unbroken.
The result is not only decoration, but a handmade object shaped by patience, memory, and daily use.
The Textures & Forms on This Rug
Each element woven into this pair carries meaning in Amazigh craft — together they form a quiet blessing for the spaces they inhabit.
Color from the Earth
Every colour in these rugs comes from one of two sources: a plant-based pigment dissolved in a copper pot, or the natural colour of the wool itself, straight from the sheep. Nothing is bought as a ready-made colour.
The golden yellow and deep olive tones are not separate dyes — they are made by layering and over-dyeing the base pigments by hand.
The cream and natural black tones are not dyed at all — they come straight from the natural colour of the wool, sheared from different sheep.
Perfect Spaces
At 37 × 27 in (93 × 69 cm) each, this matching pair works beautifully in any room that calls for symmetry, softness, and handmade colour. The reversible flatweave construction means both sides are styled and ready.
Placed on both sides of the bed, the matched pair creates instant balance — two small handmade pieces that frame a bed with warmth and symmetry.
The pair adds symmetry, colour, and natural wool texture without crowding the room — two small anchors in a space that wants to feel considered.
Two small rugs can frame a threshold or divide nearby zones with warmth — a handmade welcome on both sides of the door.
Each rug creates a small handmade landing place for daily rituals — two pieces that bring the same quiet warmth to separate corners of any room.
The twin format can be displayed as a balanced textile composition — hung side by side, the two pieces form a striking handmade panel of colour and craft.
May these rugs bring balance and warmth into your home. May their colours brighten your days and their patterns remind you of strength, beauty, and tradition. May every step upon them be filled with comfort, peace, and prosperity. — The Artisan's Blessing
