Diamond lattice. Braided cord. Sandy wool, undyed and honest.
Handwoven by Moroccan women artisans. One loom. One rug — never to be repeated.
Woven flat by Moroccan women artisans in Taznakht, Morocco, this beige flatweave rug measures 201 × 119 cm and is made entirely from 100% natural, undyed sheep's wool. Across its warm sandy ground, diagonal lines of raised braided cord trace a continuous diamond lattice — a grid of open lozenges that covers the full field from edge to edge. There is no pile. The warm camel-beige of the woven body is wool dyed with henna leaf, one of the oldest plant pigments in Moroccan weaving; the lifted off-white of the cord lines is natural undyed fleece, straight from the sheep. The flatweave construction keeps the profile low and the rug durable, built for daily use. It is the only one of its kind in the world.
Meaning & Symbolism
The diamond is the most enduring motif in Amazigh weaving. Across centuries of Moroccan rug-making, the lozenge has carried a consistent meaning: protection for the family, a boundary drawn around the home, a symbol of continuity passed from mother to daughter through the geometry of the loom. A lattice of diamonds — repeating without interruption across the full field — takes that protection and makes it total. No gap in the grid, no break in the boundary.
That this lattice is rendered in undyed natural wool deepens the meaning further. In the Amazigh tradition, natural cream and warm ivory carry their own weight — the colours of honesty, of material left as it was found, of restraint as a form of confidence. The braided cord lines that mark each diamond edge add a tactile dimension: you can feel the geometry underfoot as clearly as you can see it.
The result is not only decoration, but a handmade object shaped by patience, memory, and daily use.
The Texture of This Rug
This rug's language is entirely structural — form, cord, and the contrast between two natural wool tones doing the work that colour would elsewhere.
Color from the Earth
This rug uses one plant pigment and one natural wool tone. The warm camel-beige of the woven ground is wool dyed with henna — a pigment drawn from dried henna leaf, which gives wool a soft sandy-brown warmth that no factory colour can match. The off-white cord lines that trace the diamond lattice are left entirely undyed, straight from the sheep.
The off-white cord lines that trace each diamond are not dyed at all — they come straight from light-fleeced sheep. The contrast between the henna ground and the natural cord is what makes the lattice visible: two honest materials, each left as close to its source as possible.
Perfect Spaces
At 79 × 47 in (201 × 119 cm), this rug works beautifully in warm, everyday spaces where a grounded, natural textile earns its place.
A warm, grounding centrepiece that anchors a seating area with natural texture and quiet geometric pattern.
Soft undyed wool and natural camel tone make the room feel calm and settled from the floor up.
A durable flatweave accent that brings rhythm and handmade warmth to a passage without adding bulk.
A compact layer of natural softness and handmade presence that makes a corner feel considered and complete.
Gentle undyed wool and calm natural tone support a quiet, warm corner that doesn't overwhelm.
May this rug bring calm, warmth, and quiet comfort into your home. May its natural wool remind you of patient hands, honest materials, and peaceful days. — The Artisan's Blessing
