A red border. A field of diamonds. A long, loud blessing.
Nine weeks of work. The hands of Amazigh women. One loom. One rug — never to be repeated.
This handwoven red Moroccan wool rug was made in the village of Taznakht, in the foothills of Morocco's Anti-Atlas Mountains. It was tied knot by knot on a vertical loom by Amazigh women artisans over roughly nine weeks of patient work — never copied, never repeated. Made entirely from 100% natural sheep's wool and dyed with plant-based pigments, a deep red zigzag border frames a dense field of nested diamonds. It is the only one of its kind in the world.
Meaning & Symbolism
Inspired by centuries of Amazigh weaving, this rug is built from the oldest signs in the tradition. The whole field is a grid of diamonds — the symbol of the family bond and of protection, repeated so often that the rug becomes one continuous shield. At its centre sits a nested medallion, diamond inside diamond, standing for the home and the generations held within it.
Every diamond is wrapped in a zigzag border — the line for the flow of life and water, keeping balance and harmony moving through the household. Small dark-and-white centres inside the diamonds read as eye motifs, watching over the home and turning away harm.
Colour carries its own meaning here: red for strength and life, blue for protection and calm, gold for warmth and welcome, green for growth and the land. The result is not only decoration, but a handmade object shaped by patience, memory, and daily use.
The Symbols on This Rug
Each motif carries meaning in Amazigh weaving — together they read like a long, layered blessing for your home.
Color from the Earth
Every colour in this rug comes from one of two sources: a plant-based pigment dissolved in a copper pot, or the natural colour of the wool itself, straight from the sheep. Nothing is bought as a ready-made colour.
The olive green and soft coral threads in the diamonds are not separate dyes — they are made by layering and over-dyeing the three base pigments by hand.
The cream outlines and the dark centres in the diamonds are not dyed at all — they come straight from the natural colour of the wool, sheared from different sheep.
Perfect Spaces
At 55 × 124 in (140 × 315 cm), this is a long, generous rug that anchors larger rooms and full seating areas with handmade colour and texture.
A warm, grounding centerpiece that anchors a full seating area with handmade texture.
The wool surface adds warmth and craft around a table that seats a full family.
The long shape brings rhythm and colour to a passage or wide corridor.
A soft handmade foundation that runs the length of the bed and makes the room feel complete.
The generous size helps define a larger area while keeping a grounded, lived-in feel.
"May this rug bring warmth, joy, and good energy to your home. May the diamonds keep you and your family protected, the flowing borders carry harmony through your days, and may it remind you daily of the beauty in tradition and craftsmanship." — The Artisan's Blessing
