A handmade pink Moroccan rug, 180 by 250 cm, hand-knotted in wool with a long shaggy pile cut through by flat woven diagonals. The colour is not even: cream fibres run through the rose so the surface shifts between the two as you cross the room. Woven by one weaver over six weeks, and available in any size or colour to order.

The Story of This Rug

One fleece, two lengths. The diagonals are woven into the rug, not drawn on it.

Six weeks. One weaver. One loom. Rose and cream in the same wool, and no two patches of it alike.

Rose is the first thing you see, but it is never the same rose twice. Paler cream fibres run all through the wool, heavier in some areas than others, so the field lightens and deepens across its own surface. Nothing here was printed or overlaid. The variation is in the fleece itself, and it is what stops a single colour from going flat across four and a half square metres.

Cutting through it are flat woven diagonals, low and tightly worked, running corner to corner while the pile stands long on either side. The wool leans away from each line, so every diagonal is edged by its own shadow and the rug reads differently from the two ends of a room.

All of it came off one loom, under one weaver, across six weeks. Because a single pair of hands worked it from the first row to the last, the tension stays even the whole way down: there is no point where one weaver hands over to another and the rhythm changes. Underfoot, this is a hand-knotted rug you can sit on. The pile is long enough to sink into and the flat bands sit low enough to read as texture rather than as ridges. Both ends finish in tassels, twisted and knotted by hand in the same rose as the field rather than left cream.

The Texture of This Rug

There are no motifs to read here. Four structural things carry the whole rug.

Long Pile
Deep shaggy wool that moves under a hand and holds the mark of it.
Flat Diagonals
Low bands woven tight, running across the field corner to corner.
Leaning Wool
Pile combed away from each line, so every diagonal casts a shadow.
Rose Tassels
Warp ends twisted and knotted by hand at both ends of the rug.
Meaning & Symbolism

The meaning of colour varies between regions, families, and weaving traditions, and no single reading holds across all of them. Here, the rose was chosen for softness rather than for any fixed meaning: a warm tone that reads as calm in daylight and turns deeper under a lamp at night.

Our wish is that it brings you calm, health for the people you love, and a quiet kind of strength in the room where you put it. May it take the weight of ordinary days: bare feet in the morning, people sitting on the floor, a house that gets used. The result is not only decoration, but a handmade object shaped by patience, memory, and daily use.

The Colour of This Rug

One colour family carries the rug, and the long pile spreads it across three depths at once. The wool looks palest where the cream fibres gather, warmest across the standing pile, and darkest along the flat lines where the weaving is packed tight.

Tones on This Rug

Dusty Rose
the standing pile, seen straight on

Pale Blush
where cream fibres run through the fleece

Deep Rose
the flat diagonals, where the wool lies tight
Perfect Spaces

At 180 by 250 cm this is a full room rug, and a long pile Moroccan wool rug suits rooms where people sit and rest rather than rooms where chairs are dragged about all day.

Living Room

Takes the front legs of a three-seat sofa with room for a low table on top. The pile is deep enough that people end up sitting on the floor around it.

Bedroom

Run the long side across the room under a double bed and the pile covers both walking strips, which is the part of a bedroom floor your feet actually meet.

Reading Corner

One armchair, a lamp low enough to rake across the pile, and the diagonals do the rest of the decorating.

Open-Plan Space

With no walls to divide the floor, the diagonals give the eye a direction and mark where the sitting area starts.

May this wool be soft under you at the end of long days. May the people you love sit on it and stay a while. May your house keep its warmth through every cold month. A blessing from TazRugs

Frequently asked questions

Will my rug shed?

A small amount of shedding is normal for the first 2–3 weeks with any handwoven Moroccan rug — these are loose fibers from the weaving process settling out. After that, gentle weekly vacuuming on low power keeps the rug looking new for decades. Avoid rotating beater-brush vacuums on natural wool — use suction only. For deeper care instructions, see our complete wool rug care guide

How do I know my rug is truly handmade?

Every TazRugs piece ships with a signed certificate of authenticity from the Iznaguen Women's Cooperative in Taznakht, naming the artisan who wove it. We're also certified by the Moroccan Artisan Label (a government-backed authenticity guarantee) and STEP Fair Trade (independent verification of ethical labor). Authentic handmade rugs also have small irregularities — slightly uneven edges, tiny knot variations, color shifts in the dye. If yours looks perfectly uniform, it isn't handmade. Learn more in our guide to spotting a real handwoven Moroccan rug.

How long does shipping take from Morocco?

7 to 10 business days worldwide via DHL, FedEx, or Aramex with full tracking. We ship from Casablanca and deliver to the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, and most other countries. Shipping is free, and we handle all customs duties for the US, UK, and EU — no surprise fees at delivery. Full details on our shipping and returns page

How do I clean and care for my rug?

Unroll immediately upon arrival : to avoid creases from shipping. Any slight folds will naturally relax over time — don’t worry.
Vacuum regularly : on low power and avoid rotating brushes. Some wool shedding during the first few days is completely normal.
Spot clean spills immediately : using cold water and a mild detergent.
Natural refresh : Sprinkle a mix of baking soda and coarse salt, leave for 1–2 hours, then vacuum thoroughly.
Professional cleaning : Recommended every 2–3 years or for deeper soiling.
Storage : Fold carefully and place in a breathable cover with a sachet of dried lavender.
Air it out occasionally : Light sun exposure on sunny days helps keep your rug fresh.

For the full step-by-step routine, see our handwoven wool care guide.

Are the colors exactly as shown in the photos?

Very close, but slight variation is part of the craft. Every dye is mixed by hand in copper pots in Morocco using traditional Amazigh techniques, and every screen renders color slightly differently. Photos are taken in natural daylight to keep them as honest as possible. If you'd like extra detail photos before you order, message us — we're happy to share more.

Is the rug safe for kids and pets?

Yes. The wool is hand-spun from Atlas Mountain sheep, the dyes are plant and mineral-based, and there are no chemical treatments anywhere in the rug. Natural wool is also flame-resistant and stain-resistant thanks to its natural lanolin — making it one of the safest floor coverings for children and animals. This applies to all our pieces, including soft Beni Ourain rugs for nurseries and durable rugs flatweave kilims for high-traffic rooms.

Is it truly one-of-a-kind?

Yes — every rug is designed and woven by a single Amazigh artisan, entirely from her own imagination. No pattern or paper guide is used; each piece is a personal expression of the weaver’s story, emotions, and creativity.

Once a rug is sold, that exact piece can never truly be reproduced. Even with a custom order, there will always be slight differences, because every handmade rug carries its own unique soul

Can I order a custom size or color?

Yes. Our weavers can make a custom version of any rug in your preferred size, color palette, or motif arrangement. Visit our Made-to-Order page to start the process — we'll come back to you within 48 hours with a quote and timeline (custom rugs typically take 4–8 weeks to weave, depending on size). A handwoven Moroccan rug, made the traditional way: natural wool, plant-based dyes, and weeks of skilled work by a single artisan.

This handwoven Moroccan rug comes from Taznakht, a region in Morocco renowned for its traditional Amazigh rug weaving heritage, shared with neighboring Beni Ourain and Azilal regions. For generations, women artisans have transformed natural wool into beautiful handmade Taznakht rugs, runners, and kilims using techniques passed down from mother to daughter.

Each rug is imagined and designed freely by the artisan, inspired by her creativity, life experiences, and Amazigh cultural symbols. No patterns are copied, which makes every piece — whether a small Moroccan rug, a runner, or a large area rug — truly unique.

The wool is naturally dyed using traditional plant-based dyes, a centuries-old practice that gives Moroccan rugs their rich, organic colors while remaining eco-friendly and chemical-free.

Every authentic Moroccan artisan rug takes weeks to complete and carries the story, imagination, patience, and heritage of the woman who created it. We also offer custom Moroccan rugs made to order, woven specifically for your home.
