A field of navy. A scatter of symbols. A blessing for your home.
Six weeks of work. One artisan. One loom. One rug — never to be repeated.
This handwoven blue kilim Moroccan rug was made by Moroccan women artisans, working on a vertical loom over roughly six weeks of patient work — thread by thread, never copied, never repeated. It combines knotted and flat-woven techniques in a single surface, so raised texture and low, fine weaving sit side by side. Made entirely from 100% natural wool and naturally dyed, this is not a reproduction. Every irregularity in the weave is the trace of a human hand. It is the only one of its kind in the world.
Meaning & Symbolism
Every motif scattered across this navy blue field carries intention — a blessing woven in by the artisan's hand. The most repeated of them is the X symbol, a sign of protection, balance, and unity, set again and again across the rug like a quiet refrain.
Around it move smaller marks — diamonds, combs, arrows, and four-petal florals — each one a word in the visual language of Amazigh weaving, passed down through generations of women who never needed to explain them.
The result is not only decoration, but a handmade object shaped by patience, memory, and daily use.
The Symbols on This Rug
Each motif carries meaning in Amazigh weaving — together they read like a quiet blessing for your home.
Color from the Earth
Every color in this rug comes from one of two sources: a traditional pigment dissolved in a copper pot, or the natural color of the wool itself, straight from the sheep. Nothing is bought as a ready-made color.
The soft rose tones across the smaller motifs come from a gentle, diluted madder bath — never from a separate dye.
The cream and white threads in the motifs and fringe are not dyed at all — they come straight from the natural color of light-fleeced sheep.
