About the rug
The Story of This Rug

Five diamonds. One zigzag. A blessing for your home.

Three weeks of work. One artisan. One loom. One rug — never to be repeated.

This handwoven blue Moroccan kilim rug was made in the village of Taznakht, in the foothills of Morocco's Anti-Atlas Mountains. It was woven on a vertical loom by a single artisan over roughly three weeks of patient work — thread by thread, never copied, never repeated. Made entirely from 100% natural sheep's wool and dyed with traditional pigments, this is not a reproduction. It is the only one of its kind in the world.

Meaning & Symbolism

What looks like a simple decorative pattern is in fact a quiet language. At its heart, five interlocking diamonds sit in a row across the center — the bond between generations, family, and community. Smaller diamonds rest on top of each, symbols of protection, blessings, and guidance.

A flowing black zigzag line moves through the rug like a current — the symbol for the flow of life, keeping balance and harmony moving evenly between you and the people you share your home with.

The result is not only decoration, but a handmade object shaped by patience, memory, and daily use.

The Symbols on This Rug

Each motif carries meaning in Amazigh weaving — together they read like a quiet blessing for your home.

Color from the Earth

Every color in this rug comes from one of two sources: a traditional pigment dissolved in a copper pot, or the natural color of the wool itself, straight from the sheep. Nothing is bought as a ready-made color.

The pigments — from stone, root & peel

Sky Blue
from natural indigo stone

Deep Red
from madder root

Golden Yellow
from permanganate peel

Mixed by hand to make more

The small touches of green you see in one of the diamonds come from over-dyeing yellow wool in indigo — never from a separate dye.

Earthy Green
yellow + indigo, over-dyed

From the sheep, not the dye pot

The black and white threads in this rug are not dyed at all — they come straight from the natural color of the wool, sheared from different sheep.

Natural Black
from dark-fleeced sheep

Natural White
from light-fleeced sheep
Perfect Spaces

At 40 × 26 in (102 × 66 cm), this rug works beautifully in compact, intentional spaces.

Bedside accent

Soft wool underfoot in the morning. Fits perfectly along one side of a bed.

Entryway

The easiest way to introduce Moroccan character at the front door.

Wall art

Hang it from a thin dowel — the diamond motifs read as textile art.

Reading nook

Color and texture help define a quiet personal corner with an armchair.

Cozy corner

A compact layer of color, softness, and handmade presence over a larger neutral rug.

"May you, your family, and your community always be protected and safe. May the rhythmic flow of life bring harmony to your relationships, and may your home be anchored in protection and overflowing with blessings in every corner." — The Artisan's Blessing

Natural variation

Each TazRugs rug is woven entirely by hand from natural wool. The material and the hands behind it give every piece its own character, with gentle differences in size, pattern, colour, texture, pile, and finishing.
These beautiful details are part of what makes a handwoven rug unique. No two pieces are exactly alike.
Once your rug is finished, we share final photos, close-up images, and a video so you can see its colour, texture, pile, and finishing clearly before it leaves Morocco.
