Five guardians. One yellow heart. A blessing for your home.
Nearly four weeks of work. One artisan. One loom. One rug — never to be repeated.
This handwoven black Moroccan kilim rug was made by Moroccan women artisans, working on a vertical loom over nearly four weeks of patient work — thread by thread, never copied, never repeated. It is a true flatweave — low-profile, durable, and easy to place in everyday rooms. Made entirely from 100% natural wool and naturally dyed, this is not a reproduction — it was entirely imagined by the artisan who made it. It is the only one of its kind in the world.
Meaning & Symbolism
The design of this rug centers on five geometric symbols — one in yellow at the heart of the rug, and four in white anchoring each corner. Each symbol is formed by a rectangle marked with four vertical lines that end in small diamonds.
Together they represent vigilance, protection, strength, and the continuity of life flowing through your home. The four corner symbols stand watch over the rug from every direction, while the central yellow figure holds the heart of the composition — the source from which protection and energy flow outward.
The result is not only decoration, but a handmade object shaped by patience, memory, and daily use.
The Symbols on This Rug
Each motif carries meaning in Amazigh weaving — together they read like a quiet blessing for your home.
Color from the Earth
Every color in this rug comes from one of two sources: a traditional pigment dissolved in a copper pot, or the natural color of the wool itself, straight from the sheep. Nothing is bought as a ready-made color.
The small touches of deep red across the corner symbols come from layered pigment baths — never from a separate dye.
The deep black field and the cream and white threads in the motifs are not dyed at all — they come straight from the natural color of the wool, sheared from different sheep.

At 40 × 27 in (102 × 69 cm), this rug works beautifully in compact, intentional spaces.
