The Story of This Rug

Diamond lattice in cream and black. A blessing for every hallway.

Weeks of work. The hands of Moroccan women artisans. One loom. One runner — never to be repeated.

Handwoven in cream and black, this Beni Ouarain runner was made in Morocco by skilled Amazigh women using 100% natural wool — no synthetic fibre, no shortcuts. The field is undyed natural ivory fleece; the bold diamond lattice is formed entirely from natural dark wool, never touched by a dye pot. Knot by knot, the two tones are tied into a continuous trellis of interlocking rhombuses that runs the full 201 cm length of the piece. The hand-knotted construction gives the surface a dense, raised pile that is soft underfoot and durable through daily use. It is the only one of its kind in the world.

Meaning & Symbolism

This Beni Ouarain runner embodies the harmony between simplicity and geometry. The repeating rhombus pattern is one of the oldest motifs in Amazigh weaving — each diamond represents protection and balance, a boundary drawn around what matters most: family, home, the threshold you cross each day. Stacked end to end along a runner, the diamonds form an unbroken chain of protection from one end of the passage to the other.

The black and white contrast carries its own meaning in Berber tradition. Natural cream speaks of honesty and light; natural black speaks of depth and the quiet strength of the earth. There is no dye in this rug at all. Every tone you see is the natural colour of the wool itself, exactly as it came from the sheep — no copper pot, no pigment, nothing added.

From the sheep, not the dye pot

The soft contrast between the ivory ground and the dark lattice lines — the depth of the black, the warmth of the cream — comes only from wool sheared from different sheep. No dye was used to achieve either tone. This natural difference is what gives an undyed Beni Ouarain its quiet, timeless depth.

As each rug is woven to order, returns and exchanges are not accepted. Please review your measurements, colour direction, and design carefully before placing your order.
